Shear cutting, according to DIN 8588, involves cutting a material with two cutting edges moving past each other, similar to scissors. The material is cut by shear force. This cutting process is one of the most commonly used techniques in sheet metal processing. Tools used for this process include scissors (household scissors, guillotine scissors, tin snips, cable scissors, etc.), as well as punching presses, rescue scissors, or nibblers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Material separation by shear cutting can be divided into four phases:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Attachment of the upper and lower knives with elastic deformation of the material, causing displacement in the cutting direction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Plastic deformation of the material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Initiation of cracks starting from the cutting edges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Tear through.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The quality of the cut surfaces during production is determined by various factors, including the material thickness, the cutting gap in relation to the material thickness (3-5% for open cutting, 5-10% for closed cutting, 0.5-1% for fine cutting), the condition of the cutting tools, the material type, tool guidance, and part geometry. The quality of an internal mold is significantly influenced by the stamp, as there is only relative movement between the stamp and the internal mold.
